You may recall the global excitement a year ago, when Gmail finally came out of beta - after an astonishing five years:
Google's email was in Beta? I never noticed. And if I had noticed I wouldn't have cared. Its no longer in Beta? Didn't notice. Don't care.
@FleaStiff: yup, and famously so. Yes, it didn't really feel like a beta, but they regarded as such.
Laboratories? Remember computer vendor Wang Labs?When an engineer suggested the name be changed to Wang Computers, Wang fired him on the spot. The word didn't seem to have as much value then as now.
