East, West... makes no difference. They're all at it: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/12/01/jahc_biometric_id_standards/
Indeed if anyone can recommend somewhere where they're not I'd be quite grateful for the tip.
I would be quite surprised if the Tories actually end up being any different to Nu Labor when they come to power. They'll just have Google running the database instead of Microbesoft.
I suppose you need the occasional change of colour though to preserve the illusion of democracy.
Alternatively I suppose we could all go and join Brian Haw in Parliament Square. They couldn't arrest the whole country could they?
But then I don't suppose ID cards get all that much negative coverage in the Murdoch press. That's my favourite recent story, Mandelson "dripping poison" to Osborne about Brown at a slap up do on an island paid for by Rupe.
Oh, I have no illusions that young David will be any better; it's just that I think the business of changing administrations, suppliers, standards, etc. will slow things down a bit....
You could argue that voting Green in the UK is a waste of a vote, but that is by its nature rather a self-fulfilling argument. It took Labour a while to get going before the Nu Labor MBO. In any case, at least by voting Green you wouldn't be voting for something despicable - Nu Labor / Nu Tory.
Go west young man. p
ReplyDeleteEast, surely?

ReplyDeleteHow long exactly were you hoping it would get slowed down for?
ReplyDeleteDoesn't sound like a very future-proof approach to me :(
I'm open to better suggestions....

Indeed. The Greens are also very sound in Europe.
