Ashley Highfield Goes to...Guess Where?

Microsoft.

At least it's symmetric: Erik Huggers goes from Microsoft to the BBC, and Highfield goes from the BBC to Microsoft, via Kangaroo. Let's keep it cosy, eh?

Why do we all get the sick feeling of 'embrace, extend, and extinguish' every time I see these kind of moves? Taxpayers should demand only open formats be used for any media produced by the BBC. Archiving what they have in such formats would be nice, too, if the world could afford it.

and I'm sure there's no connection between any of this and the BBC becoming Microsoft's UK advertising agency...

  4. Open source fanciers finger Beeb's Win 7 'sales presentation'

    | “The OSC has again had to remind the BBC News Unit that the 3-minute item
    | appeared to be a sales presentation rather than the news review that the BBC
    | claim it was, since the product [Windows 7] itself is not expected by its
    | vendor to be fully defined and released for at least 2 years,” it said.

"Microsoft hardly needs an SCO source license. Its license payment to SCO is
simply a good-looking way to pass along a bribe..."
