Blogger's Massive Fail

I can't believe this. When posting the previous entry, I got this message:

Blogger currently allows a maximum of 10 labels per post, and 2000 labels per blog. To get rid of this message, you will have to correct the appropriate label counts.

It seems that I have exceeded my quota of 2000 labels per blog: how insane is that? How can I limit myself to a set number of labels given that the world moves on and new ideas come along that need new labels.

Time to explore those export options....

  1. Congratulations, you have just had an important lesson in cloud computing! This is why I run my own WordPress installation.

IME, to run WordPress you need to be able to cope with a Unix command line. Then it's all good.

  2. I opened this from my RSS reader to come suggest Wordpress but I see someone has beat me to the punch. GPL licensed it is...a bit more open than Google's Blogger. Though, AGPL would be even better...

  3. Yes, I know that Blogger is deeply flawed, and that there are better solutions...I suppose I consider it a useful penitential experience...

I won't say I told you so, partly because I already did, and partly because others have beaten me to it this time.

Now, off to talk to the environmental speaker who uses a podium made of crushed asbestos and baby seal bones...

    Glyn,
I encourage you to be *open* in your deliberations on your next blogging platform.
    Questions you might consider include:
    - must it be open/free?
    - what does open/free mean in this context? (e.g., would hosting at WordPress.com fit your definition?)
    - should you keep on blogging? Perhaps blogging per se is so last Thursday, and twitbook and facer are where it's at these days

If you'd be interested in addressing some of these issues in the context of voice or email interviews, please consider granting such an interview to changingway.org

    Best,
    Andrew

  8. @Andrew: yes! Andrew, that's the solution to everything: I'll simply stop blogging.

  9. (@Andrew: but if I do ever contemplate shifting platform, I'll give you first option on the interview....)

  10. Blogger has some other issues as well. The new HTML syntax checking for instance. How wonderful that Blogger would like to babysit us. How stupid that it will report an error before I've had a chance to finish what I am doing.
