Opening the Mirror

Der Spiegel is the greatest news magazine in the world, bar none. It makes The Economist look superficial, and yet constantly surprises with the range of its coverage.

A little while back, writing about Focus, its main rival - although that's really too strong a word, good though Focus is - and the fact that the latter was providing free access to its archive, I made the wish that Der Spiegel would follow suit.

Apparently, it has. It's called Spiegel Wissen, and I may be some time....

The Economist is superficial. Being a tech journo, you've probably noticed how awful their tech coverage is. I live in the US, and can attest to their slanted, silly coverage of US politics. Oh, and Irish news, too, since that's where I'm from.

So given that of three things I know a lot about, they suck at every one of them, it's not too much of a stretch to suppose that they mightn't be the brightest LEDs in the Mooninite when it comes to other topics.

Sadly, the same can be said about tech coverage in the other UK newspapers - with the honourable exception of the Guardian (for which I write), which takes technology seriously.
